Wir trauern um Gil Scott-Heron. Es heißt, er sei nach einer Europa-Reise erkrankt und letzte Nacht in einem New Yorker Krankenhaus im Alter von 62 Jahren gestorben. Die Ursache ist bisher unklar.

Das Mixtape heißt zwar Summer´10 Mixtape, aber ich finde, man kann es getrost auch dieses Jahr noch hören. Nächstes Jahr bestimmt auch noch und überhaupt, es ist zeitlos, so zeitlos wie die Musik, die zu hören ist. Back to the roots und los geht´s. Viel Spaß.

Wer entdeckt nicht gerne neue Musik, wer lässt sich nicht gern beschallen, ohne ständig an der Wiedergabeliste zu basteln?! Vielleicht habe ich was für Euch, was Euch gefallen könnte…SAMURAI FM.
Ihr könnt nach Genres Stöbern, Euch die Mixtapes anhören und in der Regel gibt es auch die Tracklist dazu.
Ich mag den Song PIMP von 50 Cent. Rein musikalisch gesehen. Über die Texte des Herrn Cent lässt sich streiten. Hab mich mal umgeschaut, was es sonst noch so an PIMP Versionen gibt. Es gibt noch eine Reggae-Dancehall Version von Bost & Bim, die covern ganz gern modernes Zeug. Ist auf der Du-Röhre allerdings gesperrt. Mittlerweile gibt es zahlreiche Coverversionen, bzw. Remixes die nach dem Smash Hit von 50 Cent (auf der Platte “Get Rich Or Die Trying, 2003) erschienen sind. Ich fange mal mit dem besten Stück von der Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band an. HIER heißt es, dieses Stück ist eine Coverversion des 50 Cent Hits! Kaum zu glauben…Auf vielen Blog, in vielen Foren wird jedoch behauptet, 50 Cent hätte “geklaut”.
Der Song hat Groove! Von 2008, also eindeutig nach 50 Cents Version entstanden.
Dann gibt es diese Version, die angeblich vom jungen Herrn Cent 1987 aufgenommen wurde. Keine Ahnung, was dran ist.
Es darf natürlich nicht die Version mit Snoopy Dogg fehlen.

Dieser Film ist eher dem Genre Dokumentation zuzuordnen und wirklich sehenswert. Hier geht es um Blues, Chess Records und Hip Hop.
Der Sohn des Begründers der Plattenfirma, Marshall Chess, führt uns durch eine bluesige Vergangenheit, er möchte alte Blues-Größen zusammentrommeln, um ein Projekt auf die Beine zu stellen, indem sich Blues mit Hip Hop verbindet. Ein Projekt, das am Ende gelingt. Leider ist der Weg zum Ziel das Hauptthema und die Mischung von Blues und Hip Hop das Ergebnis, das am Ende doch zu kurz kommt. Schade. Trotzdem ist dieser Film eine Bereicherung für alle, die sich nicht nur für Mainstream-Mucke interessieren. Mit dabei u.a. Common, Ike Turner, Chuck D….

Ein Song zum Dahinschmelzen. Die erste Version, die ich kannte, war von den Pet Shop Boys. Und die Version fand ich schon toll. Dann dachte ich, oh, das ist ja gar nicht von den Boys, der Song ist von Elvis. Aber falsch gedacht. Mittlerweile gibt es um die 300 Versionen. Hier kommt zuerst das Original, gesungen von Brenda Lee. Veröffentlichlicht wurde der Song 1972, geschrieben von Johnny Christopher, Mark James and Wayne Carson Thompson.
Nun die geläufigsetn Versionen chronologisch geordnet. [Ich muss hier einfach anmerken, dass die Versionen von Brenda und Elvis einfach genial sind. So sehr ich Erland schätze, aber seine Version hat nichts mehr mit dem Original zu tun uns nervt im Gegensatz dazu leider.]

Wer ist Euer Favorit oder Eure Favoritin, wenn es um die Kunst des Gitarrenspiels geht? Hier meine Top Five.
Mein großes Vorbild war ja immer Slash von Guns´n´Roses. Den Typen fand ich echt cooool. Daher bei mir auf Platz 1.
Platz 2, weil sie mich in “This Is It” vom Sitz zog. Die Australierin Orianthi Panagaris.
Platz 3 geht an Eric Clapton für sein ausgeklügeltes und harmonisches “Tears in Heaven”. Zwei Gitarren braucht´s dazu, beide “Stimmen” zusammen klingen wirklich toll.
Angus Young ist ein begnadeter Gitarrist, ohne Frage. Weil ACDC nun aber nicht zu meinen Lieblingsbands zählt, leider “nur” auf Platz 4.
Auf Platz 5 für das Solo (in) “Ocean” von John Butler. Auch genial.
Ich bin letztens durch Zufall auf diese Dame gestoßen. Da ich selber mal Orgel gespielt habe und den unverwechselbaren Sound der Hammond Orgel liebe, dachte ich, ich lass Euch Anteil an der Spielweise Cherry´s haben. Leider finde ich im Netz nicht viele Informationen zu ihrer Person, daher müsst ihr Euch mit den Videos zufrieden geben. (Falls Ihr mir Hinweise geben könnt, her damit!)

Ich kannte zuerst die Version von Soft Cell aus dem Jahre 1981 und hielt diese Version des Duos für das Original.
Marylin Manson´s Cover von 2001 ließ mich erst Recht in dem Glauben, die Version von Soft Cell sei das Original.
Erst kürzlich habe ich entdeckt, dass das Original aus Ed Cobb´s Feder stammt, von Gloria Jones performed und bereits Mitte der 60er als B-Seite erschienen ist. Der Song floppte. Während der 70er wurde dem Song eine derzeit entsprechende Note verpasst, ein Erfolg blieb trotzdem aus. Beide Versionen sind meine Favoriten, dieses “alte Zeug” lebt für mich mehr denn je.
